The Penn Libraries has a variety of teaching spaces suitable for both small groups and large classes.  Equipment and seating capacity varies.  Please check each room’s page for more details.    

 

FEATURED TEACHING SPACES 

Collaborative Classroom
collabclassroom4_editCollaborative spaces bring learners and teachers together in new and powerful ways.  The Collaborative Classroom is an active learning space located in room 113 of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center. Designed for problem-solving activities, the space contains 5 tables and one instructor station, each with a projection screen. Whiteboard and glass walls surround the room for 360 degrees of writable surface. The room seats 30 and is available for both course instruction and for individual events.  When the room is not in use as a teaching space it is available for student use as a collaboration space.  The adjacent open area, with flexible seating, can be used in conjunction with or separate from the classroom.

 

The David B. Weigle Information Commons

The David B. Weigle Information Commons (WIC) opened its doors in April 2006. Located on the first floor of  Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, the WIC supports collaborative learning and group activities using the latest technologies. The WIC includes a variety of collaboration spaces including Group Study Rooms, Data Diner Booths, Alcove Meeting Areas, the Class of ‘68 Seminar Room and the Vitale Digital Media Lab.

The Class of ‘68 Seminar Room is located in Weigle Information Commons on the first floor of Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center.  It is designed as a technology-intensive instructional space that seats up to 35 people. The room includes 20 Mac Laptops, several PC laptops and a high-definition videoconferencing system.

The Education Commons 
eduCom_editThe Education Commons opened in March 2012. It is a state-of-the-art study and information space that supports teaching and collaborative learning. Located on the mezzanine of the George A. Weiss Pavilion in Franklin Field, the Education Commons comprises 6,400 square feet and 168 seats and includes an 18-seat seminar room and 8 group study rooms, all reservable online. The space is open to all current Penn students, faculty, and staff (a PennCard is required for access).

The Education Commons Seminar Room is open to all current Penn students, faculty, and staff (a PennCard is required for access).  The EC Seminar Room seats is equipped with a PC, an 80-inch full HD LED/LCD digital display and connections for two laptops. The EC’s Macbook cart with up to 20 Macbooks is also available for reservation for use in classroom and instruction activities.
