Penn Libraries Open House
Thursday, April 19, 11am – 2pm
Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center
On Thursday, April 19th, from 11am – 2pm, the Penn Libraries will be opening its doors to welcome the Class of 2022 for Quaker Days.
This year, the Penn Libraries has been exploring the world of immersive technology through our PennImmersive initiative. For Quaker Days, prospective students will have a hands-on opportunity to interact with the many resources available to Penn undergraduates- including virtual and augmented reality!
As part of the Libraries’ Quaker Days programming, visitors can explore Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center on a self-guided tour to explore the building’s many study spaces, classrooms, and world-class collections. An optional feature we’ve incorporated this year is to enhance the tour with augmented-reality features that provide background on the spaces students will be visiting as well as giving students a preview of our collections and exhibits.
By downloading the free app Zappar on their mobile phone and using it at AR stations located through the library, visitors will unlock special features like videos, photo galleries, and links to websites for more information about the library’s spaces and collections.
During the Open House, visitors can also try out some of the immersive technology equipment available to the campus community at the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center. Library staff will offer students an opportunity to try the Oculus Rift or play virtual golf using ZapBox on the main floor of Van Pelt Library.
Immersive technology is just a small part of what the Penn Libraries has to offer students who choose to attend the University of Pennsylvania. Penn students have access to a large network of libraries and a rich research collection in support of undergraduate studies. Penn librarians will be on-hand during the open house to answer any questions and provide students with more information about all the resources available to them as a Penn student.
If you are attending Quaker Days, we invite you to stop by Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center and explore what awaits you as a Penn student. We look forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your visit to Penn’s campus.
